Texas has an amazing history – it has a total of eight changes of government from six countries: Spanish 1519-1685, French 1685-1690, Spanish 1690-1821, Mexican 1821-1836, Republic of Texas 1836-1845, United States 1845-1861, Confederate States 1861-1865, United States 1865-present. In fact, The Six Flags Over Texas theme park is named for the six countries that have ruled over Texas.
There is so much to see in Texas. You can start with the Alamo located in San Antonio. It is where Texas defenders fell to Mexican General Santa Anna and the origin of the phrase “Remember the Alamo” was born. Moving on to the capital. The building opened May 16, 1888. The dome of the building stands seven feet higher than that of the nation’s Capital in Washington, D.C.
Let us not forget that the first word spoken from the moon on July 20, 1969 was “Houston….”. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco. There is no period after the Dr in Dr pepper. Texas possesses three of the top ten most populous cities in the United States – Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
When you settle in Texas, be prepared to drive fast. In a rural stretch located between Austin and San Antonio, the speed limit is 85 mph. Texas also has the fastest average legal speed at 78.3 mph.
Texas has its share of Funny Laws:
(1) It is illegal to commit a crime without giving a 24-hour notice.
(2) It is illegal to milk another person’s cow.
(3) It is illegal to drink more than three sips of beer while standing.
(4) It is illegal to buy cheese on Sunday.
(5) You cannot eat your neighbor’s garbage without their permission.
