And Sage Creek Wilderness is the home of the black-footed ferret, the most endangered land mammal in North America. And Custer State Park in East Custer is home to a herd of 1,500 free-roaming bison.
For famous landmarks did you know that Mount Rushmore took 14 years and only $1 million dollars to build, and that the Crazy Horse mountain carving is the world’s largest sculpture at 563 feet high, and 641 feet long.
When you relocate to South Dakota, you can impress your friends in your old state that the U.S.S. South Dakota was the most decorated battleship during World War II.
South Dakota has their share of Funny Laws:
(1) To lie down and fall asleep in a cheese factory is against the law.
(2) All hotels are required to have two twin beds, and the beds must always be two feet apart.
(3) It’s illegal to disturb a mink den in South Dakota.
(4) It’s illegal to allow your dog to hunt big game, with the exception of mountain lions.
(5) Horses are not permitted to enter Fountain Inn unless they are wearing pants.
