Moving To Ohio – Fun Facts

The word Ohio comes from the Iroquois word ohi-yo, which means “great river”. Ohio has over 40,000 miles of waterways. Ohio is known as the Buckeye State because of the buckeye trees commonly found throughout the Ohio River Valley. These plants produce small, brown nuts that look like the eye of a deer. Ohio legend says that carrying one in your pocket is good luck.

Ohio was declared a state in 1803 and its borders and constitution were approved by Thomas Jefferson. But it didn’t get the presidential stamp of approval until 1953. Dwight D Eisenhower signed and backdated Ohio’s admission to the union. So, fear not, you are relocating to an actual state. This state has produced eight U.S. presidents.
